Amyrah is the beautiful daughter of Emilie, one of our favorite people to come into the studio. You may recall Emilie’s maternity photos that were drop dead gorgeous. Emilie brought Amyrah in yesterday for a quick portrait session. Amyrah really did not enjoy being bothered during her nap and she was quite vocal about it. Amyrah taught me a valuable lesson - never schedule just an hour for a newborn session! : )
Hey, what do I know? I don’t have any kids. I thought all babies do is sleep and look cute for the camera! : ) Here are a few of my favorites from the session yesterday!

My hope in the photo above was to capture Amyrah sleeping in Emilie’s arms but she would have nothing to do with it! I guess I don’t blame her…… I wouldn’t feel safe catching a few ZZZ’s while balancing precariously on my mom’s arm either. : )
August has been a great month! I have had the great fortune of working with two very talented photographers, Amy Carroll of Amy Carroll Photography and Jen Badalamenti of JK Photography. I got to work with Amy on an awesome wedding in Grand Haven (photos coming soon) and have worked three weddings with Jen! The photos below are from the first wedding I worked with Jen. You can see her blog post here but I thought I’d share a few photos from Chery and Mike’s wedding. : )

I love when couples do a “first glance” before the ceremony. This is Mike waiting in the sanctuary for Cheryl to arrive. This is often the only time the bride and groom will have alone on their wedding day.

Hailing from the class of ‘85 (Has it been that long??), senior photo sessions have come a LONG way since I stood in front of a camera with a pink polo shirt and my hair parted smack dab down the middle of my head. I remember looking at my proofs and basically pointing to a random photo and declaring it the winner. One pose, one photo to capture the essence of a graduating senior in 1985.
The class of ‘09, on the other hand, has so many options available to them that it boggles the mind. I had the pleasure of photographing Kaleigh and Chris, cousins from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Kaleigh is going to be a senior at Jenison High School and Chris is going to be a senior at Catholic Central High School. We all met up at the studio and traveled around the Monroe avenue area to get some really cool shots. We wrapped the session up with some fun stuff in the studio.
I’m intrigued by the whole “fingers in the pocket’ look. In my day, we stuck our whole hand in our pockets. Times have changed.

Rhonda and I had the pleasure of hanging out with the Berens family at Spring Grove park a couple of weeks ago for their family portraits. A very fun, laid back and as the photos show, BEAUTIFUL family. Lots of laughs, smiles and they weren’t afraid to try anything. They braved the ice cold creek, balanced precariously on trees and the kids hung from a trellis for a good five minutes while I fiddled with my camera.
We hope you enjoy the photos and it was an absolute pleasure getting to spend time with your family!

If you are one of the 30 million people in the world that purchased the new iPhone in July or one of millions that own the first generation phone or iPod Touch then I have some great news for you! You can take this blog wherever you go and have a quick, easy and dare I say, hip way to access the blog from your phone. Many thanks to my friend and coding genius, Ron Sweeney, for creating this nifty home screen icon for your iPhone and iPod Touch.
Getting the homescreen on your phone is simple. All you need to do is point Safari (on your phone!) to the site, (http://www.darrinwassom.net/iphone/) wait for the page to load and then do the following:
- Tap the + button at the bottom of the Safari browser.
- Tap ‘Add to Home Screen’
- Name the app (I called it DW Photo on mine) and tap on the ‘add’ button
In the screen shot above you can see the icon that we just added to the Home Screen. Using it couldn’t be simpler! Just tap on the DW Photo icon and give your eyes a visual treat! Thanks again to Ron for putting this together.
